Call for Submissions
EXCAVATIO XXXVI (SPRING 2026)
Excavatio: International Review for Multidisciplinary Approaches and Comparative Studies Related to Émile Zola and Naturalism Around the World is the official publication of the Association internationale Zola et Naturalisme (AIZEN)
Twenty-four volumes are already in print and available in university libraries and other collections in North America, Asia, and Europe.
Excavatio has become web-based, featuring 8-12 articles in each volume. This scholarly-refereed free access journal is published annually.
The thirteenth web-based volume, no. XXXVI, will appear in May 2026 as an issue featuring scholarly articles on Émile Zola, Naturalism and Progress.
In order to submit a paper for consideration, you must be a current member of the AIZEN. Submissions should be lengthened and documented according to our guidelines, with complete bibliographic information appearing in a first footnote and subsequent references in a shortened form.

All papers will be submitted to a peer-review and editorial process.
Submissions for Volume XXXV, with a length of 6,000 to 8,000 words in either English or French, should be sent as attachments in Microsoft Word, along with an abstract of 100-200 words, a short curriculum vitae, and brief biographical sketch to the Co- Editors-in-Chief Juliana Starr (jstarr1@uno.edu) and Elisabeth-Christine Muelsch (emuelsch@angelo.edu): by midnight on December 15, 2025.
